Hitomi Katsumi (勝見仁美)is the Executive Secretary for the Robotics department. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Bachelor of Arts in Music (flute/piccolo performance) from the University of Michigan. After graduation, she has stayed on as staff at U-M for almost a decade, having previously served at the Center for Research on Learning and Teaching; the Michigan Ross Center for Positive Organizations; the English Language Institute; and the School of Public Health’s Office of Access, Culture, and Community before joining the Robotics Department in 2025. She brings years of experience in executive support, corporate relations, and event planning after working closely with over 100 organizations globally including the United Nations, World Health Organization, and NASA. At work, you will find Hitomi working while listening to marching band or orchestral music, video game BGMs, or soundtracks from Ghibli movies. Outside office she can be found practicing her instruments on North Campus for the U-M Life Sciences Orchestra, going to local/community events, or spending time with her partner and their extremely adventurous 2.5 year-old son. In the way it’s written in Japanese, Hitomi’s name means “honoring beauty in humanity.”
