Reduced Course Load

Students are only allowed one reduced course load for academic difficulties or medical condition per program.

Instructions for reduced course load:

  1. Determine the reason for a reduced course load.
  2. Based on the chosen reason, complete the following steps:
    1. Completion of Course Study (final term in the program) *To be on a reduced course load you must have degree requirements remaining towards your graduate program. If you have completed all degree requirements the Robotics program is unable to provide a RCL letter.
      1. Finalize your course registration.
      2. email um-robotics@umich.edu to request your RCL letter.
      3. You will receive the RCL letter via email from the  Graduate Program Coordinator. Please allow 2-3 working days for the letter to be emailed.
      4. Complete Reduced Course Load Request Form.
      5. Submit all paperwork to the International Center.
    2. Academic Difficulties
      1. Complete Reduced Course Load Request Form.
      2. Write a statement for the reason for your academic difficulty.
      3. Submit the two items to the Graduate Program Coordinator.
      4. You will receive a RCL letter from the Graduate Program Coordinator.
      5. Schedule a meeting with an International Student Adviser to submit all paperwork to the International Center.
      6. Drop the course through Wolverine Access.
    3. Medical Condition
      1. Get a letter about medical condition from a medical professional according to guidelines listed on the website above.
      2. Complete Reduced Course Load Request Form.
      3. Submit the three items to the Graduate Program Coordinator.
      4. You will receive a RCL letter from the Graduate Program Coordinator.
      5. Schedule a meeting with an International Student Adviser to submit all paperwork to the International Center.
      6. Drop the course through Wolverine Access
